10 days and counting...

So. Someone around here thought it would be a great idea to dry out. As in, detox, as in no brunch, happy hour, or Mojito Monday. For a whole month! Cuh-razy!

Well, I have to confess that this someone with the brilliant idea was me (I know, who would have thought), and of course my health-maniac, salad-loving husband jumped right on it. So, here we are, ten days into Operation Detox, and we are definitely counting. The first question everyone asks when they find out about this is WHY??? And that confused, astonished look is quickly followed with a little "Are you preggers?" glimmer in their eyes. So we'll just set the record straight- not pregnant, and definitely thirsty. For a margarita.

Really, there's not one specific reason we're attempting this feat. It's all about a test of wills- we're trying to prove to ourselves that we can do it. Inspired by our dear friend Allison Gomer's November Detox, we decided we ought to try it out too. I mean, it's basically Allison's job (literally) to booze it up, so if she can do it, then I think we really should be able to make it a few weeks without hitting the bottle.

The original plan was to do this in January, but that just wasn't going to happen. January is way too depressing of a month, even with a glass of sangria or two or ten. So, February it was. Now, full disclosure, we are going to Mexico at the end of February, so we're not even doing this for a full month, but I still think it counts. And, seriously, how awesome is that first beach-side dacquiri going to taste?

That's the big news around here. We've already made it through Operation Detox Challenge #1: Super Bowl Party. And this was not just any Super Bowl Party. It was a Super Bowl Party featuring home brews and homemade mead. Besides that, as my friend Melanie said, who knew that it was even possible to watch football without having a beer? Well, I'm happy to report that we made it through the party, and even had a lot of fun, and are now gearing up to face Challenges #2, #3, and #4: "drinks" with my co-workers (uhhh, a Shirley Temple, please?), Valentines Day, and three-day weekend. That is a lot of Challenges for one week, so wish us luck. I'll definitely be keeping you posted, since I have GOT to write on this thing more often! I mean, it was a New Year's resolution!

Ok, speaking of resolutions, since I neglected to blog at all in January (except for once about a waffle. I mean, it was an extremely delicious waffle, but still...weak), I better just get these resolutions out there for everyone to see:

1. Don't drink for one month (that one already gets a half-check mark! Yeah!)
2. Blog more. And more. And more.
3. Work on my writing- if I'm ever going to bust out of that nine-to-five, I better be an AWESOME writer. Like wayyyyy better than I am now. So, I'm not quite sure what this goal will entail, but stay tuned...
4. Have a perfect record for sending cards or presents for all birthdays, engagements, weddings, births, whatevers...I did pretty well last year, but there's room for improvement. So, if we missed a card for your birthday last year, hold me to it- you'll get one this year!

That's all I have for right now- it might be this stomach virus I contracted last night taking over my brain, so don't be surprised if I add more later...

Happy (sober) February!
