"Felicity" fans will hear me on this one...

Had another New York first today- a subway delay...

We were racing along just like normal when all of a sudden we stop and the conductor comes over a loud speaker and says we are delayed and then the engine shuts down and we sit and everyone gets so so grumpy.

Despite warnings to never look at people in the subway, I looked around me and tried to determine from whom the first drama would come if we continued to sit there. Who, like Felicity and Julie on the show, would work out their personal problems through a guitar and song and the help of fellow disgruntled passengers?

I was also keeping a lookout for the creepy underground lurkers that they showin that episode of "Felicity"- I was just waiting for one with a pale pale face to lurk right by my window. But alas, I saw only grafiti.

And then after a mere minute or 2 of all of these racing thoughts about the exciting events that might await in the time we were stuck underground, the train started moving again and Eric and I took our most recent purchases out of the subway station and into Columbus Circle, where we were greeted with the sun for the first time since we've been here. No blue sky yet- OH WAIT- now's it's blue sky!!! And it's not even humid!!! Oh man that's the greatest.....

It's been one week...

Well after one week in New York I've decided I simply cannot keep my feelings to myself anymore. I'm just busting to tell everyone about what I've been doing, but most of you can attest that I am not the best at calling or writing on a regular basis. And give me a break- if I called all of you every day I would never be able to do the "pages and pages" of reading I'm supposedly going to have to do starting next week (as I shake in my little booties....)

So I guess I'm officially a New Yorker....And I'm getting excited about it...
I've found a dead mouse in my apartment.
I've managed to fit a gigantic dresser into a cab, despite several cabbies' protests.
People ask me for directions all the time even though I consider my general expression in the subway to be one of utter confusion.
I sit in a box (I'm not kidding- I actually sit in a box) when I type on my computer (stealing internet, of course) because we have no furniture.
I say "Hey little pigeon pigeon pigeon" instead of running away screaming from the many many birds that roam the streets (I'm still careful to step around them if they seem to stay in my path for too long)
I'm getting used to living in a world of miniatures---tiny room, tiny stove, tiny fridge, tiny shower, tiny everything
I'm really sweaty a lot of the time
I eat peanut butter sandwiches every day because I need to save all my pennies.

So yeah it's pretty great here. I oscilate between moments of "OH MY GOD I'M IN NEW YORK" and "Oh my god--- I'm in New York". Like today, sitting in my orientation, I looked outside and could see the Chrysler building and a beautiful church and hundreds of other amazing buildings, and I'm sitting there with all these other people who are after the same things I'm after, and I just suddenly realized how amazing this is. All of the anxieties and worries and inhibitions just left me for a moment and I felt at home.

And then I came back to my teeny tiny miniature home and, strangely enough, I still felt at home. Amid boxes and various tools, Paul, Eric, and I made dinner in my steaming hot apartment to the tune of my screeching and overly sensitive smoke detector and it was just great. Just so so great.

So tomorrow's another day- most likely it will be back to shock and confusion and stress- but today was so great it inspired me to blog!!!

Oh and by the way, Paul and I have been very busy trying to eat everything we can find in New York. We've already eaten some pizza in the middle of the night and noodles at HO and HO's (! yes...it's true....we can't believe it either...) and we are going to eat hamburgers as big as our heads really really soon.

Ok- time for bed! More projects tomorrow!
(That wasn't too bloggy was it?)
